An older man with white hair in a white t-shirt and pink shorts is painting an art piece in a studio. The studio has various artworks, shelves with supplies, and easels.

I am an artist based in Bath in south west England. Before turning my attention to painting and drawing, I spent over thirty years as a civil engineer working on major infrastructure projects around the world, followed by a career as a UK Diplomat in China, where I served at the British Embassy in Beijing and as British Consul-General in Chongqing.

Much of my work draws on those experiences. My paintings and drawings are part of a visual chronicle of a lifetime of travel, observation and cultural exchange. They form a personal record of places, people and moments that have stayed with me. Some are based on direct observation, others on memories or photographs taken during my travels. Together they reflect the experiences that have shaped both my life and my work.

I work in oils, charcoal and printmaking. My paintings are representational, with an emphasis on composition, drawing and visual clarity. I am interested in people, architecture and the relationship between them. My engineering background has given me a lasting appreciation of structure and design, while my years travelling continue to influence the subjects I choose and the stories I want to tell.

I hope these paintings and drawings encourage viewers not only to enjoy the image itself, but also to pause and consider the story that lies behind it.
